Premier League Preview – Week 8
Premier League Preview
Very Happy with last week overall, another 7/10 and two correct scores to boot. The only real disappointment was on Tyneside again with Newcastle really struggling. They are just not creating enough and it looks as though it will be a long season for them. I got caught out this week with the Friday night game so a very short overview this week but definitely no after timing as you can see from the first prediction. Let’s see if we can keep the momentum going as SPORTSvox takes a look at the fixtures this week in our Premier League preview.
Brighton v West Ham
Brighton need to pick up points at home and this they will see as an opportunity. They do not score many goals so will need to capitalize where possible and restrict the ‘Hammers’ attacking threat where possible.
West Ham have started to show signs that they are coming together. They are still not that clinical at the moment with only 7 Goals in 7 games and will need to improve in this area.
Prediction: 1 – 1
Burnley v Huddersfield
It looks as though Burnley are back on track and I fully expect them to start moving up the table again. Its very clear where Wagner has problems, three goals in 7 games. Burnley are not the sort of team that will give you many chances to rectify that stat. Another tough afternoon for Huddersfield.
Prediction: 2 – 0
Crystal Palace v Wolves
I cannot work Palace out this season, for spells last week I thought they were going to turn over my selection Bournemouth. They played some good football at the start of the second half but as soon as Eddie Howe changed it up again they had no answer. The atmosphere is always great at Palace and they will make it tough for Wolves but they will have to make the most of their chances when they occur. If Wolves can hold the ball for long periods I would expect them to wear Palace down eventually.
Prediction: 1 – 2
Leicester v Everton
Good wins for both of these sides last week and this should be a great match up. As mentioned previously i think both of these sides will be pushing for European places and this match up will go a long way to show who is best placed to capitalize. There is a lot more to come from Everton when their injured squad players return so I am sticking my neck out on this one with a small victory for Leicester.
Prediction: 2 – 1
Tottenham v Cardiff
Injury ravaged Tottenham off the back of their loss to Barcelona on Wednesday will not have it much easier with the visit of Cardiff. Notoriously after European adventures sides have struggled and with a lot of the stars still missing I think this is an opportunity for Cardiff to sneak a point here. Neil Warnock will definitely make it difficult and look to trouble them at set pieces. Going for a small shock here.
Prediction: 1 – 1
Watford v Bournemouth
Another two sides that have started really well, but you can just sense that one has real momentum and the other is just starting to plateau a little. I think the way Bournemouth play they are just as dangerous on their travels as they are at home. their speed on the counter is great and if they convert their chances they will pick up another three points here this week.
Prediction: 0 – 2
Man Utd v Newcastle
Will Jose be at the helm come Sunday, does it even matter if he gets the win, potentially not. The gossip is rife and Old Trafford is not the fortress of old. This is Newcastle however, they are really struggling and I can see the players turning up here for Mourinho. Nothing but a home win here for me, in the traditional slog style of the ‘Special One’
Prediction: 2 – 0
Fulham v Arsenal
The only London derby this week sees a really resurgent Arsenal side travel to an unsettled Fulham. I am not sure Jokanovic really knows the best way to get the best of his side yet. He likes to play on the front foot and I can see this Arsenal side taking full advantage. Should have goals this one with Arsenal prevailing comfortably for me.
Prediction: 1 – 3
Southampton v Chelsea
Chelsea managed to rest a few players in midweek but they still had to rely on Hazard’s introduction to scrape through their Europa tie. They should have enough to cope with a very average Southampton side. They are struggling to find the net and Chelsea should cruise through here.
Prediction: 0 – 2
Liverpool v Man City
The ‘Big One’ Holders vs challengers etc etc. Very hard to see how this will will go, previous games have produced lots of goals. Liverpool struggled in recent weeks to create as many chances as they used to and I am tipping this one to be a more cagey affair than in previous encounters. I may be completely wrong, an early goal and it could be any score you like. Just sit back and watch this one, but if you had to predict I would go for a slight away win.
Prediction: 0 – 2
