Enteractive Cup – ‘ROW Dominate Singles to Retain the Trophy’

Neill Simpson 30 th August 2021

Enteractive Cup Day 3 Review

Sunday was all set up for a nail biting finish, but as a contest it was pretty much over before the last group had teed off.  It only took Team ROW six matches to retain the trophy they won last year. Taking the singles 8 to 4 meant that the overall result looked very one sided by the end of the day. With a final scoreline of 15 – 9 Team EU will be already thinking of revenge next year.

Flying Start For ROW Top Order

Continuing his great form across the last three days, Andy Foster kick started the ROW charge to victory. Taking his match against Neil Bergin 4&3, his win set the tone for the remaining matches.

Singles Matches 1-6

In probably the game of the day any chance of an EU recovery was scuppered by the dogged determination shown by Andy Featherstone. Being two down with three to play against Tore Lindtveit, ‘Feathers’ managed to win the last three holes to close the match out in style with a birdie.

Gary Baines secured his own personal 3 from 3 when he comfortably saw off the challenge of Dennis ‘The Greek God’ Baltzis. Even EU Captain Alex Hillblom could not stop the rot. Taking on Steve ‘Wafu’ Dodd, he could never really muster any pressure and tamely fell away eventually losing 5&3.

Lehtiniemi Brings Some Magic To The Party

In a super encounter between Dave ‘Big Man’ Robertson and Harri Lehtiniemi of Team EU. With both finding some form, it was Robertson that turned 1up after 9 holes, being only 3 over par. However, Lehtiniemi had other ideas on the back nine and proceeded to win 5 of the next 6 holes in two under par gross to close out the match 4&3.

However, Team ROW didn’t have to long to wait in order to celebrate retaining the Enteractive Cup. Gernot ‘Tin Cup’ Schmid had the pleasure of securing the win. He fought off the battling Tero Veinonen and ran out a 4&3 winner with still 6 matches on the course.

Large Wins For Cotton and Parkhill
Singles Matches 7-12

The next two games were very one sided as another ROW player in Peter ‘Cotts’ Cotton secured his 3 from 3. Taking on ‘The Pro’ Cotton again played tremendously to secure an amazing 6&5 victory against Andy Borg. There was not stopping the ‘King of Birgu’ in the next match as Singles debutant Peter Zall was no competition for Ross Parkhill.

Too Little Too Late For Team EU

At least Team EU managed to put up a little more fight in the last four games of the day. A very solid Peter ‘The Great’ Ekmark closed out a 3&2 win against Neill Simpson in a closely fought encounter.

Richard Waterhouse continued his fine form overturning Henrik ‘Steady Eddy’ Fagerlund who was very much more than steady on the day! Having only been 2 over par gross on the day Fagerlund was no match for the experience and guile of Waterhouse who closed out a 4&3 victory with a net birdie on the 15th.

The Scots were bringing it home for Team ROW and obviously if they were required would have fared a little better against their opposition. Martin ‘Heavy Ballesteros’ Collins couldn’t get one over John Finnighan who ran out a 3&2 winner on the day. Whilst in the last match of the day a very competent Toni ‘ The Tank’ Westerholm cruised past the ‘Rhino’ to beat Ryan Kerr 5&4 to at least give team EU some hope for next year.

Consolation for Hillblom on the 13th

All in all it was another fantastic event all round. In addition to Team ROW retaining the trophy, there were three Nearest the Pin prizes up for grabs on the 13th hole each day.

Friday’s best shot was played by Andy Featherstone, Saturday saw Gernot Schmid take the spoils. Then on Sunday EU scooped one prize when Alex Hillblom claimed the nearest the pin prize. All the winners secured a roller bag, filled with goodies courtesy of Enteractive.

The Clubhouse was all talk of next years event already and it was clear to see everyone enjoyed their golf whether they won or lost. It was a true sportsman event, played in great spirit and thanks to all the support given in the lead up and during the event itself.
